June is shaping up to be “all about Spain” – what with the news about bank rescues to avert another global banking meltdown and “Rafa” in the finals of the French Open again.

Innovative, wine-focused Buyan Russian Restaurant & Caviar Bar is doing its part to shore up the global economy with a timely Spanish wine event.

The New Spain! @ Buyan brings two weeks of excellent by-the-glass Spanish wine adventure and loads of cross-cultural wine/food expeditions for curious wine lovers.

No, this isn’t just Russian caviar topped tapas and Cava…

With an outstanding line-up of wines in the mix – several TLN recommended wines like the Albariño Lagar de Cervera, the highly rated reds from Campo de Borja (Borsao), the fantastico Emilio Moro, Acustic – Buyan’s inspired sommelier Indra Kumar brings in other well-known wines from Bodegas Muga plus one of Spain’s new generation of rising stars – Telmo Rodriguez.

Most people think that Spanish wine is just cheap and cheerful.  It is a "value" purchase but only because it exceeds on quality for price.  Because of this Spaniards are proud of their wines and why not be! With outstanding wine traditions most everywhere in the country, plus a keen interest in improving wine quality to satisfy sophisticated wine consumers –Spain should be known for stylish wines these days!

At Buyan , the event line-up goes like this:

“Flight Tastings” – an all day – any time menu of great wines throughout the two weeks.

  • Triplets (white/rosé/red) - $25
  • Quadruplets (white/red) - $35
  • Quintuplets (white/red) - $45

The Wine Fiesta (June 20 from 6-9pm) for those wanting to enjoy a bigger selection of wines in a walk-around tasting of 27 wines that includes Russian “canapés” - that’s French for tapas.

Spanish & Russian Duet (Nightly Wine Pairing Menus)

  • 2 course + 3 wines - $45 per pax
  • 3 course + 4 wines - $65 per pax
  • 4 course + 5 wines - $55 per pax
  • 5 course + 6 wines - $98 per pax
  • 6 course + 7 wines - $115 per pax

The Grand Fiesta with Russian Cuisine (29 June 2012. 7 – 10:30pm)

This 6 course meal will feature 10 wines, but also a cocktail presentation with 17 wines. What? Cocktails?   You have to come to find out what this is about.

The best thing is that “Local Noses” get a 10% discount on these wine activities – you only need to tell Indra (and his team) that TLN sent you.

So head over to Buyan and do you part for global economic recovery….fill up your glasses with Spanish wine!  Their high quality and robust character ressemble Nadal more than the Spanish banks.
