  hotv_header

The Austrian Wine Festival is in full-swing with set-menu deals all over Singapore.  The Tastings Room has put together a fantastic wine and dine combo - a delicious reason to eat out!

For a three course paired meal, The Tasting Room’s Austrian Wine Festival dinner at $68++ is not to be missed. Two appetizers, two entrees, and two deserts to choose from .

And don’t forget the wine.

You won’t find any of the usual, run-of-the-mill house-pour varietals here. Instead, The Tastings Room is showcasing distinct native Austrian wine. Take the Huber Gruner Veltliner Obere Steigen ’09 – it’s a light, quick to coat the palate with good acidity - and it’s a refreshing change of pace.

Paired with truffle mushroom purée soup, the bright, crisp white was the perfect welcome drop into a fantastic meal.

My next course, “The Official French Duck” as I’ve dubbed it – fresh duck flown in from France – took right off with a glass of Juris St Laurent Selection ’08. Together the wine and food were an education in texture; the combination created an incredibly nuanced, beautiful, and, yes, outright tasty main course: Highly recommended!

Normally, you’d move onto desert at this point, but I was lucky enough to also try the other main course – Pork Belly “Sous Vide” – with a glass of Leth Zweigelt Klassik ’09.

The smoked, glazed pork belly is sweet, succulent, and delicious and is a counterpoint to a light, simple, delicious red wine. It was the honey mustard sauce that brought everything together.

Finally, for desert I had the Matcha Azuki Cake – green tea and red beans – with a glass of Tement Gelber Muskateller ’09. This completed the meal both figuratively and literally.

I was stuffed!

Tement’s Muskateller, crisp with very sweet aromatics, but a lovely dry mouth, won the night.  It’s unexpected; it’s exciting.

And I loved it!

If you need a few more glasses of wine, or bottles as the case may be, The Tastings Room has an awesome selection of Austrian wine to choose from, four by the glass and 25 bottles.

This on top of the already incredible selection of wine by the glass (50 to choose from).

This dinner is one of the better set menus of the Austrian Wine Festival. Do yourself a favour; don’t miss it. And ask for Tim – he’ll take care of you.

Or better yet go to the special event and get a double dose of Austria! The wine AND the presenter!

On March 15th The Tastings Room will host a wine dinner with Michael Thurner – Asia’s Austrian Wine Expert. Here’ you’ll get the four course meal for only $78++, paired with outstanding wines.
